Choosing the perfect bridal gown is usually at the top of the list for the bride to be. However, since for most it will be the first and last time you ever shop for this type of gown a few words of advice may be helpful, after all this is a once-in-a-lifetime purchase.
All eyes will be on you the day of your wedding, and photos of the event will likely be on display for years to come. This is an area where you don’t want to short change yourself – make sure you are getting a gown of superior quality and workmanship. The fabric will be a crucial element. There are more and more copy-cat fabrics out there that try to knock-off the look of a beautiful gown but watch for the fabric content. Silk – a natural fiber that exudes a sense of classic refinement – is undoubtedly the most sought-after and cherished wedding dress material. It is what the top designers use because of its strength, sheen, and movement. You want the gown to move with you, in a fluid motion. Beware of cheap fabrics that are stiff, not only will they be uncomfortable on your big, long day, but as you move the dress will crease instead of glide with you as you move throughout the day and dance thru the night.
If you are interested in a lace gown the differences between the high quality and the low quality laces will be striking. Ask where the lace comes from. There is just no debate – the fabric mills in France and Italy have the best quality laces of anyone in the world. Does the lace feel stiff? The European laces are more lightweight and flow beautifully, whether you choose a heavier alencon lace or a light and airy chantilly lace, you will notice the difference in the weight and texture of the true high quality laces. A lace bridal gown can make the most stunning of fashion statements, but done wrong in a cheap lace you could end up looking like an elaborate craft project.

Alleanza Bridal, debuted their new bridal line using fabrics that all come from renowned fabric mills in France and Italy. Co-owner, Michele Cloward explains, “The fabrics from Europe are more expensive, but the jump in quality and craftsmanship was so huge. We weren’t interested in designing cheap bridal gowns, we wanted to make them stunning, so we splurged on the high quality fabrics. A bride will never regret that she chose a gown made out of luxurious and beautiful fabric.”
Also consider your own personal comfort when choosing your bridal gown. Are you prepared to wear a very heavy gown all day or do you want something light and airy? Is the lining out of comfortable and smooth silk or is it going to be stiff and scratchy all day. This is your one big day – make sure you look your best and are comfortable, with the right fabrics you shouldn’t have to sacrifice one for another. Considering this is a once in a life time event, when you want to look your very best, make sure your gown is made out of the finest fabrics and after it showcases the beaming bride on her wedding day it will then afterwards become a cherished heirloom.
