The Wedding Video
When I say “wedding video” what comes to mind? “Cheesy”, “Embarrassing!”, “Boring” and even “A waste of money” are a few.  I’ve seen these types of videos and you most likely have too.  The scary thing is that the children of these unfortunate souls will actually think their parents’ weddings were cheesy, embarrassing and boring! Ahhhh! No wonder red lights start flashing when we hear the words “wedding video”.  So the easy thing to do is put “wedding video” at the bottom of the list and if any of the budget is left over we might have “Uncle Bob” film it just so we don’t regret not having that special moment recorded.

The Wedding Film
Good news! There are some new professionals on the block that I want to tell you about. If you are a couple that prefer any of the adjectives “Hip”, “Vintage” “Modern”, “Epic”, “Candid”, “Documentary” or “Timeless” I’m proud to introduce you to a group of wedding filmmakers that produce “wedding films”. So what’s a wedding film? Well, something you would see in a movie theater. A film that keeps you emotionally involved while displaying stunning images and cinematography. A film your friends (including guys – imagine that) will actually want to see. It’s the exact opposite of a stereotypical wedding video. A wedding film immortalizes the greatest defining moment in your life like nothing else can and that’s why once you see one, it might just end up at the top of your list.

Educate Yourself.
Now don’t be fooled by relatives or friends claiming that because they have a great camera they are a filmmaker. That’s the same as saying because you have expensive dance shoes you can compete on “Dancing with the Stars.” This is one decision where you will want to do some research. Luckily, you have the internet with a wealth of examples online like BrideAccess.com. Here are a few “wedding films” from vendors on their site.

Some wedding filmmakers can also shoot on actual film if you want a vintage look or can produce an epic movie or a documentary piece.  One of the great defining attributes of a filmmaker is their ability to tell your story. No matter who you choose, make sure they are involved in a higher standard of ethics and helping the industry by being involved in a local or national association. All three of the filmmakers listed above are members of the Utah Professional Videographers Association.

Making it Affordable
Don’t think you can afford a wedding filmmaker? Think again. The price of a filmmaker’s highlight reel that you absolutely love is probably close to price of Uncle Bob’s longer all inclusive video which you probably won’t watch anyway. You have to ask yourself, “Would I rather have a twenty carat quartz or a two carat diamond?”

Invest in Your Family
Strengthen you marriage and your future family by investing in a wedding film. It will be a reminder of your deepest convictions, a living example to your children and a legacy for future generations… and it’s just plain cool.
