Linens is a broad category that can include table cloths, toppers, overlays, runners, napkins, and more; so let’s break it down. Today I am going to write about table cloths, both our selection and the best way to determine the right size of table cloth for your tables. Our goal, at Specialty Linens, is to give you “just the look you want”.

A table cloth is a cloth used to cover a table. Typically table cloths are made of natural or artificial fabrics. They are often designed to be easy to wipe clean. More expensive items may be made from silk, linen or lace. While many table cloths are meant to protect the table from being stained or scratched, they may also be used purely for decorative purposes, either hanging near two ends vertically over two parallel edges of the table, or hang mostly vertical along all four edges of the table, with bunched folds hanging at the four corners of the table.

Table cloths come in a variety of sizes to accommodate the variety of table sizes out there. Tables can be round, square, rectangular or even triangular. When choosing your linens it is helpful to know the size of table you want to cover. For round tables measure the diameter. The diameter of a circle is the distance across a circle, through its center. It can be visualized as a straight line cutting the circle in half.

r = radius
d = diameter
C = Circumference
For square or rectangular tables the measurements needed are the length and the width.
Round tables in most cases will be 48″ round, 60″ round or 72″ round. Of course they can be any size, but most rentals and reception centers will use one of the three sizes listed above. The most common size is 60″ round.
Tip #1:
If you do not have a tape measure and you are not sure of the size you can ask “how many chairs will fit around the table?” If the answer is eight chairs it is a 60″ round table. If it is ten chairs it is most likely a 72″ round table.
Once you know the size of the tables, you can decide the type of look you want. The look you want is up to your personal style and taste. Your linens can go to the floor for a more elegant look, or they can go half way to the floor for a more casual look. We have all looks and sizes available for rent.

Tip #2:
I will give you another bit of information that will help you decide. Most tables are 30″ off the floor and by most I mean 99 percent with very few exceptions.
